Tell Me How You Feel....

Greetings!

MAC, Makeup Art Cosmetics, the end all and be all for many beauty junkies for good reason.  The lip colors are great, there's a blush color for everyone, and the MSF's are heaven sent peaces of domed arches.  Despite all of that MAC is always putting out a new collection that gets people anxious and excited to get the "next best thing"--I get it.  You want to get that red lip because it's unlike anything you've ever seen and yet you have a drawer of red lipstick that haven't been used.  You wait in line on your lunch break because you just have to get 4 of those new MSF's that your counter only has five of.  Just like you I love these collections just as much as the next person but what I am really peeved about is the audacity of some people to deliberately purchase half stock only to sell it at a higher market price.  Do you know that I saw a Candy Yum Yum on Ebay for $125 dollars!!  $125.......that's gas money!  Don't get me wrong, everyone is trying to make a buck but I mean, that much for a tube of lipstick is outrageous.

Let's not forget about how quickly MAC sold out of lipsticks from their most recent collection, Shop MAC, only to have it restocked and sold out AGAIN within minutes, I didn't even have a chance.  I am truly amazed about the power of it all, we continue to buy these items and never really use them, I mean do you really need three tubes of Ever Hip??  I guess what I'm saying is,"Can I have a chance?"  LOL

I am really interested in knowing how you feel about this.  Tell me, do you think it is all worth the hype?  Is it worth it?  Is MAC the cosmetic version of the Jordan?  TELL ME HOW YOU FEEL....

  1. I definitely feel you on this. I wanted the lipstick Quick Sizzle, but unless I camped out, I wasn't gettin it lol! I've seen lots of bloggers that have purchased multiple backups and have tons of makeup that they go thru...and some they will never go thru! I think, unless you're going to wear it every. single. day, or you're having a giveaway. I see no need in purchasing more than one.

  3. I agree...sometimes it baffles me when I see or hear ppl type/say "I bought 2, 3, 4 for backups." Why? you won't even finish one! I love MAC just as much as the next beauty junkie, but I refuse to give the ALL my money.

  4. lol Good question! I think ALL of the hype comes from online blogs and forums, where we can easily get our fill of early collection leaks, sneak peaks, and most of all, other faceless people online who GUSH about these unreleased products and list what they're going to get... a lot of this game is in the anticipation.

We see extreme interest build by what feels like thousands of people, they post their wish lists, they fawn over the first grainy photos of a swatch, they discuss how they'll cry if Lipstick X sells out, they count down the days, so eventually, over time, now *we* want it too! Who wants to miss out on this fabulous thing that everyone keeps gabbing about?? Naturally, we now get in on the action and start talking about it too, and so on and so forth.

We see, we covet, we share, we buy. Rinse & repeat. Multiply this by how many different MAC-addicts are doing the same thing online => Website & Store stalking => Lipstick X being sold out in minutes => even more hype for the next highly anticipated product => hoarding & product over-buying, etc.

Really, what other cosmetic brand has this affect on such a consistent, expected basis? MAC has that whip appeal! They release so many launches per year that we can't help but to stay interested and tuned in. They'll also only produce a few of each item (from a financial standpoint, to ensure everything they produce is sold, and from a marketing standpoint, to keep up appearances of a high demand). So of course, this in turn generates even more buzz for current and future collections. They have it down to a science, and we gobble it all up.

  6. i'm a self proclaimed mac addict... i love the energy from the brand... but after accumulating a lot of makeup and seeing what i use vs what i buy... i got over them and these collections quick .. besides i tell myself constantly.. the color of the rainbow never changes.. they just find different ways to market it to you. i still check out stuff based on hype and out of sheer love of cosmetics, but seriously it is overkill and overload. i don't even have the chance to enjoy a product before it's another load of products on their way.
